Today, Mr. Taylor (aka Mrs. McDougall's dad), came in to share everything he knows about bridges. He has been building bridges for about 50 years. We even got to build a bridge that was strong enough to hold Avery.
Here are some of the things that resonated with us:
-there are two different types of people that have to work on jobs - civil engineers and contractors HLA
-a bridge has to be strong and stable. It is important to look at the weight limits of a bridge before you go over it. BB
-we build bridges over train tracks, gorges, roads, water and other obstacles JH
-it takes lots of materials to build a bridge such as concrete, wood, steel and sometimes even stone/brick RT
-concrete is made out of sand, water, stones, cement AT
-contractors need to be very safe and follow safety guidelines when building a bridge CB
- bridges are built to hold a specified weight. The older bridges were not built to hold as much weight NG
- building a bridge takes a long time and it has to meet safety inspections PT
